AREF ADAMALI
Aref Adamali designs and manufactures high-end furniture in Nairobi, Kenya, leading the second-generation transformation of his family’s business. Prior to this, he worked as a competitiveness strategy consultant with OTF Group, working in Afghanistan, Rwanda, India and the Caribbean. Before OTF, Aref worked in the World Bank’s information technology policy division in Washington DC, and as a management consultant in New York, working with large US non-profits and international NGOs.
As a breather from the family business, Aref continues to work part-time on competitiveness strategies in the East Africa region and India. He is also leading a private initiative to develop a zoning plan for Kenya’s South Coast, as well as a project to list buildings of historical and architectural merit in Nairobi. He leads these initiatives on a pro-bono basis.
Aref has a masters degree in Economic and Political Development from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and an undergraduate degree from the London School of Economics (LSE).

Bart de Maar has deep expertise in urban planning and landscaping, having worked for the City of Amersfoort from 1976 to 2008.
As a landscape architect and estate steward, he was involved in the process of physical planning for commercial and residential buildings, as well as tourism-focused facilities.
He has built models and the led the implementation for the development and reconstruction of parts of the city of Amersfoort and the surrounding countryside. This process involved creating visions for what the future of a particular area should be, and developing structured plans to guide the development of this vision.
